007: Nightfire is a first-person shooter video game that is based on Ian Fleming's British secret agent James Bond, of the secret British intelligence agency, MI6. This game marked Pierce Brosnan's fourth video game appearance as James Bond before the release of his fourth and final Bond film Die Another Day, however, in the video game, his likeness was featured, but not his voice, which was provided by Maxwell Caulfield. 007: Nightfire was developed by Eurocom for the PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox video game consoles. Gearbox Software developed the game for Microsoft Windows, which Aspyr later ported to Mac OS X. The PC releases are substantially different from the console releases, featuring different missions and a modified story line. 007: Nightfire was published by Electronic Arts in 2002. In 2003 Electronic Arts released 007: Nightfire for the Game Boy Advance, this time developed by JV Games.
Story overview[edit | edit source]
007: Nightfire begins in Paris during New Year's Eve where James Bond saves the life of Dominique Paradis, a French DGSE agent, from terrorists trying to set off explosives during the New Year's celebrations; he disarms the bomb with an EMP device and averts disaster. James Bond is then sent to the Austrian Alps to investigate a stolen microchip developed by the United States for space-based air missile defense platforms. His destination in Austria is the castle of Raphael Drake, the head of Phoenix International, which is allegedly a greenhouse organization which disarms nuclear weapons.
