3D action platform video games are arguably a sub-genre of 3D platform video games, though perhaps a departure all together. With game franchises such as Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, and Jak and Daxter making up the bulk of this style. Whilst maintaining many of the same game elements, stylistically these games usually arent strongly associated as platformers; more frequently called the catch all "action adventure" usually reserved for games that defy categorisation, such as Tomb Raider, Uncharted, and Prince Of Persia. Usually mixing different combat options and different type of interactions that goes beyong regular 3D Platformers.
It is difficult to decipher where this sub-genre ends and Action-Adventure games that just happen to include platforming, such as InFamous or MediEvil would begin.
