Codex Gamicus

Basic Information

4320p is the shorthand name for a category of video modes. The number 4320 represents 4,320 lines of vertical resolution, while the letter p stands for progressive scan or non-interlaced. 4320p is considered an Ultra High Definition video mode. The term usually assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, implying a horizontal (display) resolution of 7,680 pixels across and a frame resolution of 7680 × 4320, or exactly 33,177,600 pixels. The frame rate in hertz (Hz) can be either implied by the context or specified after the letter p, such as 4320p30, meaning 30 frames per second.

4320p is referred to in marketing materials as "Ultra High Definition", with many publications choosing to abbreviate it to "8K". The first video game consoles to natively support video at this resolution are planned to be the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
