Adobe Flash (formerly Macromedia Flash; originally FutureSplash Animator), or simply Flash, is a program used to develope flash games. Sites such as Miniclip and DansGameDepot provide flash games made with Adobe Flash. Flash was originally owned by Macromedia until Adobe Systems bought the company.
Since its introduction in 1996, Flash technology has become a popular method for adding animation and interactivity to web pages; several software products, systems, and devices are able to create or display Flash. Flash is commonly used to create animation, advertisements, various web-page components, to integrate video into web pages, and more recently, to develop rich Internet applications. However, Flash is inherently insecure due to its design; on September 9, 2019, Adobe announced that it would permenantly sunset the functionality of Adobe Flash on December 31, 2020, and Microsoft announced at the same time that it would remove all instances of Adobe Flash from installed Microsoft browsers at the end of 2020.
