Android is an open-source Linux-based mobile operating system primarily chaired by Google Inc., but is available for use royalty-free if the user forgoes access to Google's services. It had an 88% share of the smartphone operating system units sold in the third quarter of 2016, surpassing its competitor iOS.

Android, like its competitor iOS, has a wide a array of games available for download. As of December 2016, Android's app store Google Play has over 2.6 million apps.

Android was initially released on September 23, 2008, with the current version being 9.0 "Pie", released on August 6, 2018.
