The Atari Jaguar was a home video game console released in November 1993 by Atari. It was part of the fifth generation of video game hardware, thus competing with the 16-bit SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive and SNES and the 32-bit 3DO Interactive Multiplayer. It was marketed as the world's first "64-bit" video game system, despite having two custom 32-bit processors. The Atari Jaguar was a commercial failure due to hardware bugs, lack of development support tools for video game developers, an overly-complicated controller, and a lack of third-party support. Only 50 licensed games were ever released for the Atari Jaguar. It was discontinued in 1996, and its failure prompted Atari to leave the console market entirely.
