Battle City was one of the classic games, meaning it had only screen that didn't scroll. The player would control a tank and protect his/her base against a number of other tanks.
Gameplay[ | ]
The whole level is covered in bricks and other objects. Bricks could be shot away, and were the only thing to protect the base when the player's tank was elsewhere. There was also forest, which covered the tanks that entered, making them hard to see.
Often, a flashing tank would spawn in. Destroying it would cause a bonus item to appear, for example a time-stopping clock.
Battle City included a built-in editor.
When playing cooperatively shooting other player makes player's tank immobile for a while but they can still shoot.[4]
