Begin 3 - A Tactical Starship Simulation is effectively version 3.0 of Begin - A Tactical Starship Simulation, and is considered a rough port of Begin 2 - A Tactical Starship Simulation to Microsoft Windows using previous versions of 2.0 (as the source for the final 2.0 build was lost). The goal of the development project of Begin 3 - A Tactical Starship Simulation is to make a feature-complete port of the final 2.0 release of Begin 2 - A Tactical Starship Simulation for Microsoft Windows.

March 1, 2009 saw the release of version 3.0.0 (build 142). While this version can be found on the web, it cannot be used as it is considered a test version that self-terminates if the system clock is beyond a certain date.

March 21, 2010 saw the release of version 3.0.1 (build 151), which can be launched on modern Microsoft Windows operating systems.
