CD-ROM read speeds are reasonably straight-forward to work out.

1X speed equals 153.6 kB/s (or 0.15 MB/s) of data transferred between the optical drive and the parent device. Each successive number of X is a muliplication of that 153.6 kB/s. So, 2X (also known as Double Speed) is 307.2 kB/s (0.3 MB/s), 4X (also known as Quad Speed) is 614.4 kB/s (0.6 MB/s), and so on. The fastest read speed manufactured for was 72x, equal to 11,059.2 kB/s (or 10.8 MB/s).
