Civilization is a board game for 2 to 7 players, designed by Francis Tresham, and published in Great Britain in 1980 and in the United States by Avalon Hill Games in 1981. Players each control an ancient fledgling Mediterranean civilization, which they attempt to develop through trade and technological advancement. While the game is not cooperative, games often focus less on combat and more on peaceful means of expansion such as trade and negotiation.
