Conker is a series of video games starring Conker the Squirrel, a red squirrel who was created by Rareware during its partnership with Nintendo for the Nintendo 64.
History[]
Conker was introduced to the world for the first time at E3 in 1997. His game Conker's Quest was presented by Rareware as another 3D platformer aimed at a young audience. Later the same year, this fact was confirmed with Conker's inclusion in Diddy Kong Racing for the Nintendo 64, thus promoting his future games. In the spring of 1998, after the initial release date, Conker's Quest was renamed Twelve Tales: Conker 64. In 1999, Conker made his first solo debut in Conker's Pocket Tales for the Game Boy Color where he had to save Berri from the Evil Acorn.
Before its release, the Nintendo 64 game was deemed too similar to Banjo-Kazooie, another platformer from Rare, and its release date was pushed back almost a year while it underwent a complete transformation, eventually being released in 2001 as Conker's Bad Fur Day. In its original inception, the cartoonish Conker and his girlfriend, Berri while on their way to a housewarming party, are accosted by villains and their presents scattered all over the land, their mission being to collect the presents. The redesigned game was geared towards a mature audience and featured sexual content, foul language, drug and alcohol usage, and excessive violence. Its storyline now commenced as Conker awakes with a hangover and attempts to figure out where he is and to find that his girlfriend Berri, drastically redesigned to be voluptuous, sensual and anthropomorphic rather than cartoonish and cute, has been kidnapped. The game suffered from relatively poor sales, but received a cult following with its unique brand of humor.
In 2005, a remake was released for the Xbox Live known as Conker: Live & Reloaded. This featured Bad Fur Day with vastly improved graphics and minor alterations to gameplay. Also included was a never-before-seen multiplayer adaptation that was available for use over Xbox Live. It is currently unknown whether the original Conker's Bad Fur Day will be added to the Xbox Live Arcade or the re-released again as a downloadable title on games on demand.
