The DOOM comic, officially entitled DOOM #1: Knee-Deep in the Dead, was produced by Tom Grindberg of Marvel Comics as a giveaway for a video game convention. Its story is loosely based on that of DOOM, and revolves around a space marine searching for powerful weaponry in order to defeat a Cyberdemon. The strip includes many well-known Doom monsters and features several of the classic weapons.

The comic first achieved fame in 2001 when Richard Kyanka reviewed it on PlanetQuake, and received further exposure in December 2003, when it was published online as part of the 10 Years of Doom anniversary special at Doomworld. Original art from the project was put up for auction on eBay in April 2004.

The over-the-top narrative and tone of the DOOM comic has made it rather notorious within the fan community.
