Codex Gamicus

Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy (ディシディア デュオデシム ファイナルファンタジー, Dishidia Duodeshimu Fainaru Fantajī,? pronounced "Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy") is a 2011 role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation Portable as part of the Final Fantasy series. The game is a follow-up to Dissidia: Final Fantasy and is set to be released in Japan in Spring 2011.[1]

The gameplay is expected to be similar to its predecessor, Dissidia, though many of the new gameplay systems are still under wraps. One announced new feature is the Assist System, which will allow the player to call allies out onto the battlefield and temporarily issue commands to them, allowing for as many as four characters on screen simultaneously; these characters can be directed to perform either Brave attacks or HP attacks. All of the original title's maps will return, and new summons will also be introduced.[2]

New Characters[]

The entire cast of the original Dissidia will be returning, along with several new characters. Returning characters will get a third costume and are expected to have new and tweaked abilities.[2]

To date, three new characters have been announced: Kain Highwind, Cecil's friend and rival from Final Fantasy IV; Tifa Lockhart, childhood friend of Cloud and one of the main female protagonists of Final Fantasy VII; and Lightning, a female soldier and the protagonist of Final Fantasy XIII.[1] Kain is described as a specialist in high-speed aerial combat, while Lightning makes use of Final Fantasy XIII's' Paradigm Shift feature in battle, allowing her to switch between the Commando, Ravager, and Medic roles using the PSP's shoulder buttons.[2]
