Dungeons of Edera is a rogue-lite RPG developed and published by Monster Tooth Studios. It was published on Steam for Microsoft Windows on August 28, 2020, in early access. The story of this hack and slash game revolves around a character whose family died in the first scene of the game and then he will have to scheme about how he is are going to get his revenge.

Gameplay[ | ]

The basics of the game are similar to any hack-and-slash game, where the player gets some basic starter equipment that starts them off as far weaker than the initial creatures that they fight, then as they level up, the gear they get becomes stronger against the creatures.

Harder difficulties would result in obtaining higher item level gear, though it is not always better than what they may have already since the Modifiers are not weighted based on difficulty.

Some of the weapons include:

  • A bow where the player can shoot one creature at a time while alerting the others to come to attack the character, notably within a significant distance.
  • A sword and board (shield) which can kill enemies in shorter range. It doesn't deal as much damage as the bow, but the player will receive less damage.
    • You will be immune to damage from your front, if you right click, for as long as your endurance lasts, but your endurance will regenerate very slowly while you are blocking. Your default Shield Bash skill (F key by default) will allow you to stop blocking for long enough to regain some endurance and is on a short Cooldown (all skills have a time that allows skills to “recharge”).

Bosses[ | ]

Bosses are essentially variants of normal creatures that the player can encounter that are harder to beat than regular creatures. Every boss has abilities, just like you do. So you need to know when it is safe to attack, and when you need to back off.

Successfully defeating a boss will unlock the Boon Altar. Allowing you to pick one “Permanent” change to your character. These boons stack, though some interact with each other differently than you’d expect (% chance to activate for instance).

Boons[ | ]

Boons are bonuses to your character’s stats and can range from Bonuses to stats to increases in damage and even a chance to trigger non-player spells.

Some boons have good effects while some have strong positive effects with minor negative ones. Such as trading Magic Find % for more damage.

These boons make the game able to scale easily into ultra hi-level characters. With enough of them you can play the New Game + “Insane” Difficulty with relative safety.
