FreeDOS is an open-source implementation of MS-DOS, with many extensions and quality-of-life changes. Because it is designed to boot and run off of modern hardware, anyone can use it to play legacy video games that were originally designed to run on MS-DOS, although it does have some limitations (such as imperfect colour emulation of old video modes like EGA).
