The Game & Watch is a series of portable games released by Nintendo, created by Gunpei Yokoi.
The Game & Watch line lasted from 1980 to 1991, which means it started an entire decade before the Game Boy was released, and ended a year after the Game Boy was released in Japan.
The first Game & Watch video game was released in 1980, and was called "Ball"; the aim of the game was to catch as many balls as you could. After the game's success Nintendo kept making more and more games, and it became a phenomenal hit until the Game Boy was released. Many games including Ball and others for the Game & Watch were remade for the Game Boy.
Many of these video games have been reversed engineered to be playable using MAME.
