The Genesis 6 Button Controller was created and released as a replacement for the original 3-button Genesis Controller for video games that required more than three action buttons (one of them being Street Fighter II: Special Championship Edition). All six buttons are on the right side of the controller, and there is a Mode button that lets the player select between six-button mode and three-button mode for video games requiring action three buttons.
