The game takes place in the fictional state of Leonida (inspired by areas of Florida) and mostly notably includes Vice City (heavily inspired by Miami), which was featured in previous games.

Development[]
An official trailer for the game was released by Rockstar on December 5, 2023, revealing the title, protagonists, setting, and release window of 2025 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. No Windows version has been announced.
On May 2nd, 2025, Rockstar announced that Grand Theft Auto VI would be delayed, pushing back its scheduled release date from December 2025, to May 26, 2026. A few days after the delay announcement, Rockstar released a second trailer on May 6, 2025.
September 2022 leak[]
On September 18, 2022, 90 videos showing 50 minutes of work-in-progress game footage were leaked to GTAForums by a user known as "teapotuberhacker".[1] The footage was confirmed by sources at Rockstar to be real, with some videos about a year old. The hacker claimed to be behind the Uber security breach from earlier in the week. They claimed to have downloaded files directly from Rockstar's internal Slack groups, and that they possessed source code, assets, and internal builds of both the new game and Grand Theft Auto V, which they threatened to leak.
As of September 22, 2022, a 17-year-old boy (claimed to be "teapotuberhacker") from Oxfordshire was arrested as part of an investigation by the United Kingdom's National Crime Agency; at least two other people are understood to be involved.
