Axonometric projection, perhaps more commonly known as "isometric projection" and also known as "forced perspective", is a way of presenting simple 3D graphics which is particularly well-suited to machines of small memory and low power, hence it was popular from the start of the 8-bit era. It is still sometimes used today.

It consists of a bird's-eye view from an upper corner of the room, so that objects always appear the same size wherever in the room they are; this saves having to use memory and processor power for scaling.
