Johto is a geographic region in the Pokémon series of games first appearing in Pokémon Gold and Silver. The region is based on the Kansai and partially the Shikoku.
In Pokémon Gold and Silver, the player-named trainer leaves the town of New Bark and tries to get all 8 gym badges from the region's gym leaders.
With all eight badges, the trainer then battles the Elite Four on the Indigo Plateau, and finally the Pokémon champion, Lance, who was the final Elite Four member from Red and Blue, and became a Pokémon master.
The Johto region is available in Pokémon Gold and Silver, Pokémon Crystal, and their remakes, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
