A Kritter

A Kritter

Kritters are recurring enemies from the Donkey Kong series. They are Kremlings that serve as major footsoldiers of King K. Rool's army, the Kremling Krew. Kritters are the most standard type of Kremling, sometimes being named Kremling themselves.[1]

Description[]

Kritters have bipedal torso, vertical pupils, red eyes, yellow pectoral, arms, four fingers, three toes with sharp toenails and tail. Most Kritters are colored green, but they have also been colored blue, brown, yellow, gray, and red.

In Donkey Kong Country, Kritters wear a set of shoulder pads, but these do not help guard them from attacks. In Donkey Kong 64, all Kritters are green and wear black leather vests depicting a human skull-and-crossbones emblem on the back and a belt with a skull buckle. In DK: King of Swing, DK: Jungle Climber, Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast and Mario Super Sluggers, Kritters wear spike forearms, belts with skull buckle, and ocher pants.

Lore[]

Game appearances[]

Donkey Kong franchise[]

Donkey Kong Country[]

In Donkey Kong Country, Kritters are one of the most basic enemies, along with Gnawties. They first appear in the level Jungle Hijinxs. Kritters are featured in four colors: green, blue, black and brown. The blue and brown Kritters have the ability to jump up and down. The game exclusively features a variety of them named Krashes, which are Kritters that ride Mine Carts during the levels Mine Cart Carnage and Mine Cart Madness.

In the Game Boy Advance version, the standard green Kritters are colored purple instead.

Donkey Kong Land[]

In Donkey Kong Land, Kritters return as enemies. They behave identically as in Donkey Kong Country but do not appear in any color varieties due to the Game Boy's monochromatic palette.

Donkey Kong 64[]

In Donkey Kong 64, Kritters are one of the enemies. They are first seen in Crocodile Isle during the intro, where there is a Klaptrap on a steering wheel, and they are telling it which direction to take. Due to this and poor planning with K. Rool's doomsday weapon, the Blast-O-Matic, which they had planned to destroy Donkey Kong Island with, the Kritters are primarily responsible for the Blast-O-Matic being inoperable.

DK: King of Swing[]

In DK: King of Swing, they are named Kremlings. They appear as enemies in certain levels, swinging on pegs. A Kremling is also an unlockable character in Jungle Jam mode, for which he can be unlocked once Donkey Kong has collected six gold medals. Its attributes are 3/5 when jumping and 3/5 when attacking.

Donkey Kong Barrel Blast[]

Kritter is also a character in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast. He is playable from the start, and has a three-star rating for his acceleration, his top speed, and his handling.

DK: Jungle Climber[]

In DK: Jungle Climber, together with King K. Rool, the Kritters steal Crystal Bananas from Xananab, an alien shaped like a banana. Before each boss fight, K. Rool uses the power of the bananas to transform the Kritters into bosses.

Mario franchise[]

Mario Power Tennis[]

In Mario Power Tennis, there are fourteen Kritters colored either green, red, or blue that surround the playing field of DK Jungle Court. They are designed similarly to their appearance in Donkey Kong 64.

Mario Strikers series[]

In both Super Mario Strikers and Mario Strikers Charged, Kritters are the soccer goalies.

Mario Super Sluggers[]

In Mario Super Sluggers, Kritters are playable characters.

Super Smash Bros. series[]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Kritters are featured in the form of two trophies, one for the goalies in the Mario Strikers series and one of regular Kritters.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS[]

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Kritters are featured in the Smash Run mode. There is a trophy of a Kritter based on their depiction in said mode.
