==Plot== Luigi, alongside Mario, Princess Peach, three Toads, and his pet Polterpup, are invited to the Last Resort hotel for a dream vacation. Upon arrival, the hotel appears luxurious and welcoming, and the group is escorted to their rooms by the hotel's owner, Hellen Gravely. However, after taking a nap, Luigi awakens to Peach's screams and finds the Last Resort fiendishly transformed. To his horror, he runs into Gravely and King Boo, whom Gravely freed from captivity. King Boo reveals the invitation was a trick to get revenge on Luigi, and he has already trapped the rest of the vacation party in portraits. In a last-ditch attempt to avoid a similar fate, Luigi narrowly escapes via the hotel's laundry chute. After waking in the Last Resort's basement, Luigi stumbles upon the Poltergust G-00 in an abandoned car. He wanders through the hotel, now revealed to be swarming with ghosts, until he finds Professor E. Gadd trapped inside a portrait. Luigi frees E. Gadd and enlists the professor's help in saving his friends. The two return to the garage, where E. Gadd sets up a safe camp. Explaining that he too was tricked by Gravely into coming to the hotel, E. Gadd provides Luigi with the Virtual Boo communication device (a spoof on the Virtual Boy) and "Gooigi", a gelatinous green doppelganger of Luigi in order to assist Luigi. Luigi traverses the hotel and fights his way through various ghosts, retrieving the buttons missing from the elevator in order to progress further. He manages to rescue all three Toads before reaching the top floor, where he defeats Gravely and rescues Mario. Mario races to the hotel's roof to find Peach, with Luigi forced to follow. Luigi frees Peach from her portrait, but the reunion is cut short by King Boo. Fed up with Luigi undoing his work, King Boo attempts to capture everyone in a single painting. When Luigi avoids capture by luck, the furious King Boo proceeds to fight. Luigi defeats King Boo, but the Last Resort crumbles to the ground due to damage from the fight. Luigi is saved by Polterpup and frees his friends from captivity. Meanwhile, all of the captured ghosts escape, but they become docile as King Boo's presence fades. Noticing the ghosts saddened by the loss of their home. E. Gadd elects to build a new hotel. Luigi's vacation party assists E. Gadd and the ghosts in constructing the hotel, leaving once it is finished.
