The Mario Tennis series is a spinoff tennis video game series that incorporates elements of professional tennis matches while having the characters, stages, theme and atmosphere of the Mario franchise. The first game in the series, Mario Tennis, was released for the Nintendo 64 in 2000.
Similar to the Mario Golf series, some games include original human characters in addition to the standard Mario cast.

- Since the series introduction, the Nintendo DS and Wii are the only Nintendo consoles to not have a new Mario Tennis game release during their production lifespan. A remake of Mario Power Tennis was released for the Wii, taking advantage of the Wii's motion controls. This, alongside other games, were released under the "New Play Control" brand.
- As of Mario Tennis Aces, Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach are the only characters to be playable in every installment.
