Marth appears in this game as the main character, and he was also the prince of Aritia until he was forced to leave the kingdom due to the army of Doluna conquering Aritia and killing his father King Cornelius, kidnapping his sister Ellis, and taking the Falchion, which is the sword that the hero Anri, Marth's great ancestor, wielded 100 years ago against the dark dragon king, Medeus. Marth is forced to flee to the kingdom of Talis for safety since he is too young to fight off the Doluna Army. He remains hidden in Talis for a few years until the Garda Pirates attack the castle. After defeating them and saving the castle, Marth then begins his journey to liberate his homeland of Aritia and get revenge on the Doluna Empire. On this journey, Marth succeeds in retrieving the Falchion from Garnef, rescuing his sister Ellis, and eventually defeating Medeus, who had been resurrected by a group of Dolunan mages. With his dying breath, Medeus says to Marth;"...My spirit is still here....At any time, when man has evil thoughts, I gain more and more strength. And at the right time, I will be able to come back again!"

Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem[]

Marth in Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem

5 years after the defeat of Medeus, Akanea seems to be at peace. The people are slowly rebuilding their lives and all is well for the most part. However, all of that is about to change. Hardain, an ally of Marth's during the war, has married the priestess Nina and has become the Emperor of Akanea. Soon after Hardain becomes Emperor, he begins charging the countries of Grunia, Gra, Macedonia and Doluna with war crimes. He also punishes these countries further by having his armies destroy and loot villages under their rule. Children are also being kidnapped, with the boys being sold into slavery, and the girls being raped by Hardain's men. Meanwhile, Marth decides that he can no longer let this go on. He decides to put a stop to Hardain's actions no matter what it takes, especially due to the disappearance of his sister Ellis, and Chiki, the heir of the Mamkute throne. Eventually, Marth finds and defeats Hardain, only to find out that he had been possessed by the spirit of Medeus. Shortly after this, Marth finds out that the reason behind the disappearance of his sister Ellis is because she had been kidnapped by Garnef, who has been resurrected, and has once again taken the Falchion. Soon after this, Marth finds Garnef and defeats him again, reclaims the Falchion, saves his sister and the other priestesses, and succeeds in defeating Medeus once more.

Super Smash Bros. Melee[]

Marth in Super Smash Bros. Melee(Fighting Captain Falcon)

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Marth is an unlockable character that can be unlocked by completing Classic mode with all fourteen regular characters (not ones you've unlocked). Marth will then challenge you; beat him to gain him as a selectable character. Alternatively, you can simply use every character as a human player in VS. Mode, or play up to 400 versus battles to get Marth.

Marth is considered one of the better fighters in certain Smash Bros. circles. He is not a lightweight character, making him a little harder to knock around. He is reasonably strong and fast. Of all the swordsmen in the game, (Link, Roy and Young Link), his sword has the longest range. This somewhat makes up for his complete lack of projectiles. In addition, the tip of his sword is the strongest part. If any attack connects the tip to the enemy, it will cause more damage. Marth is usually placed in the top tier, although the validity of "tiers", especially in a game as balanced as SSBM, can be debated.

Basic Moves[]

BShield Breaker: Hold to charge. Strong, but takes a while.
B+ForwardDancing Blade: A variable combo. Quickly keep hitting B+Direction for different moves in the 4-hit combo.
B+DownCounter: Marth will strike a defensive stance and flash. If hit when flashing, Marth will do about 7% damage and knock the enemy away.
B+UpDolphin Slash: Goes higher than Roy's slasher, but only single hit.
