Marvel: Contest of Champions is a 2014 game developed by Kabam and licensed by Marvel Entertainment. It also received a Chinese release known as Man Wei Ge Dou: Guan Jun Zhi Zheng.
Story
The Collector has invited the Summoner, you, to his Battlerealm. The Battlerealm was made as fighting grounds that the Collector and his brother the Grandmaster used as entertainment. They pit people against each other in gladiator fights, but the Battlerealm was later closed. The Collector has decided to reopen it and use Marvel heroes and villains as fighters, giving them to the Summoner and Kang the Conqueror to fight each other with. The Collector has made them believe that it is just a fight for the powerful ISO-sphere, but there may be much more sinister forces behind the Contest.
Gameplay
Using over 100 different Marvel characters, the player progresses through the story, events, arenas, and Alliance Mode.
Story Quests
Progressing through five acts, each with six chapters of six quests, the Summoner fights Champions used by Kang, Thanos, Maestro, the Collectro, and the Grandmaster. These fights progressively get more difficult, needing stronger Champions for use. Champions can be upgraded with Gold, ISO-8, and Catalysts. These items are gained through Story Quests, among other rewards.
Event Quests
Every month, a new Story Event is released that fits into the main story as well as possibly celebrating a real-life event. These events have been based off of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Deadpool, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Inhumans. These quests also give rewards, including titles that are used as badges of honor on a Summoner's profile. There are also Daily Quests that give Catalysts as rewards, as well as Road to the Labyrinth, Realm of Legends, and Labyrinth of Legends, extremely difficult quests that have epic rewards.
Arenas
Summoners may compete in 3v3 arenas against CPUs that simulate other Summoner's characters, receiving points to reach milestones and reaching high ranks. These milestones and ranks result in rewards, including new Champions. There is also a 1v1 arena that does not include ranks or milestones, but may be used to get Battle Chips.
Alliance Mode
Alliance Quests and Alliance Wars can be competed in, competing with a group of other Summoners, an Alliance. Alliance Quests are difficult, multi-path quests that Alliances complete together. Alliance Wars are battles between Alliances, where players place defenders for there base while they attack the other Alliance's defenders.
Crystals
Crystals can be purchased for Units, Loyalty, Battle Chips, Glory, or receiving them as gifts or rewards. They primarily reward Champions, but also other rewards.
