You are Little Mac, a tiny underdog who seems to be fighting outside his proper weight class. If you can defeat Super Macho Man, the leader of the World Circuit, you get to face Mike Tyson (or Mr. Dream)!
This game is based on Punch-Out!! and Super Punch-Out!! (arcade), but is not simply a port.
