The Nokis made their debut in Super Mario Sunshine in 2002. They are hermit crab-like[1] creatures indigenous to Isle Delfino. Because their shells kind of look like noodles, the Nintendo of America team named them 'noki', which is an Italian word for 'noodle'. In case you have noticed, Mario is an Italian. They went on to name all the enemies after Italian things or gave them names that sounded like the Italian language.
Named Nokis
Strangely, though their were literally dozens of nokis in Super Mario Sunshine, none of the them were given a name.
