Terminology

Overclocking is the practice of pushing a computer system beyond its standard specifications in order to achieve higher performance. This is accomplished in different ways according to the component(s) being overclocked, however more drastic overclocking setups may require additional hardware, such as heaksinks or additional cooling.

Overclocking has particular relevance to gaming, as higher system performance in general means improved gameplay.
