In Battle[ | ]
Petal Dance is a Grass-type move that deals damage to the opposing Pokémon over 3-4 turns, during which time the Pokémon using the move cannot swap out; after the move has concluded, the Pokémon that used the move becomes confused (unless a Substitute is up). In addition, the Pokémon has a 50% chance to injure itself rather than landing a successful attack; the damage is equivalent to a 40 base power Normal-type attack. If the move is interrupted by a status (such as sleep, frozen), or if it flinches or is otherwise trapped, the move is considered paused, and resumes as normal next turn, with the exception of a pause from paralysis or confusion, which causes the move to immediately end. Only the initial selection of the move deducts PP, and only if the move is fully executed will the Pokémon become confused.
