Pokémon GO is an augmented reality game released for Android and iOS on July 7, 2016 in North America, July 14, 2016 in the United Kingdom, and July 16, 2016 in the remainder of European Union countries.
When first launching the app, players have the choice of logging in using an already-existing Google account, or creating a fresh "trainer" account used to sign in to the official Pokémon website. The player is asked for their date of birth, gender, and also asked to customize their character.
Professor Willow instructs the players on how to capture and find their first Pokémon, which consists of Generation 1 starters Charmander, Squirtle or Bulbasaur. Once captured, Professor Willow lets the player explore on their own.
So far, approximately 130 Pokémon are available to capture in-game.
Tied to local landmarks, Gyms are available once the player hits Level 5.
Trading is planned, to enable players to be able to trade Pokémon between them.
