Psychonauts is a platforming/adventure game made by newly created development house Double Fine Productions. The game was the brain child of Tim Schafer. Who was also part of the staff of several LucasArts games such as Grim Fandango and Full Throttle.
Psychonauts stars Razputin, a young acrobat from a Circus. After discovering that he has the ability to use his mind in ways that most people can't, he runs off to the Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp on the World's Tiniest Pony.
Due to the popularity of this game, it has spawned two more games in the series. In 2017, a VR-exclusive spinoff game called Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin was released for the PS4 and Microsoft Windows. The plotline follows on directly from Psychonauts as the cast crash lands into the titular Rhombus of Ruin. Three major characters begin to hallucinate in bizarre ways but snap out of it after Razputin plays music.
In 2015, a sequel was announced. It is simply known as Psychonauts 2. In August 2021, the game was released onto Windows, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S to critical acclaim. The head of the Psychonauts, Truman Zanotto, is kidnapped. The cast uncover the mystery and declare that there is a mole in the Psychonauts.
