SEGA is a former super power in the video game world. It was a genuine competitor to Nintendo before the company's console business collapsed two years after the release of their Dreamcast console. They continue to develop games for other consoles. SEGA was founded as two companies, originally Standard Games (founded in 1940) and Service Games (founded in 1952). SEGA at a later date merged with Sammy to create SEGA Sammy Holdings.

SEGA is also the most prolific producer of arcade games, having produced over 530 games and 76 franchises for 23 different arcade system boards.[1]

Their mascot now is Sonic the Hedgehog, but it was once Alex Kidd.
