In Super Mario Sunshine, Shadow Mario is the primary antagonist. After a short time of waiting, Bowser has made yet another plan to stop Mario. This time, Bowser is trying to use his dark counterpart to ruin Mario's good name, during the time Mario approaches the island, Shadow Mario has done a large amount of damage to the plaza and its various inner places, only to leave our hero cleaning up the mess he has made.

In truth, Shadow Mario, is a perfect clone of Mario himself, with his jumping ability, speed, and agility, the only difference is that he has no speaking roles what so ever, although he has many sounds of grunts and moans to make up for it.
