Sonic Team is one of the most recognised and important development teams in Sega. It is headed by the critically acclaimed Yuji Naka. They were originally known as Sega AM8, until the success of their mascot game, Sonic the Hedgehog (character), and changed to reflect it in 1991. Though they still work on the Sonic series, the original creator of the character, Naoto Ohshima, no longer works for Sonic Team.
Besides the Sonic series, Sonic Team is primarily responsible for many other favorites of gamers, including NiGHTS Into Dreams, ChuChu Rocket, Phantasy Star and Feel the Magic: XY/XX.
