The Steam Deck was announced by Valve Corporation on July 15, 2021. It is a handheld PC that will come shipped with SteamOS 3.0 (itself based on Arch Linux); as part of this push into Linux gaming, Valve has made a committment that all games offered by Steam will be playable on GNU/Linux distributions via its Proton compatability layer. When paired with the Steam Dock, it is capable of 4K and 8K video output.
