Steam Trading Cards are virtual commodities on the digital distribution platform Steam. While playing supported games, players will receive "card drops" throughout the course of the game (normally within the first few hours of the game being played). In games with micro-transactions, or free-to-play games, trading cards can also be acquired by purchasing items in-game. These cards can be traded, or sold on the Steam Market. Once a full set has been completed, a badge can be formed, which contributes towards increasing the user's Steam Level. Levelling up grants extra friend slots on that player's friends list, game coupons, emoticons, and profile backgrounds.
