Super Mario 3D World is a platformer game developed and published by Nintendo and released for the Wii U on November 22, 2013.

Gameplay[ | ]

Super Mario 3D World serves as the direct sequel to Super Mario 3D Land, and is largely similar in terms of gameplay style: the elements of free-roaming 3D Mario games are combined with the more linear, timed elements of side-scrolling 2D Mario games. Like its predecessor, players must traverse through levels to reach the flagpole before the timer runs out.

Super Mario 3D World is the first 3D game in the Super Mario series to include full multiplayer. Up to four players can play at a time, and each player can choose to play as either Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, or Toad (Rosalina serves as an unlockable fifth character). Each character has unique controls and abilities, which must be kept in mind while playing. Mario is the most well-rounded, Luigi has the highest jump, Peach can fall more slowly, and Toad runs faster than the others.

In each level, every player receives a score based on their performance in that level, with the highest score being awarded a crown for the next level. This crown can be taken away by other players during levels, and keeping it to the flagpole will award greater points. All lives are shared across players, with a "Game Over" occurring when all four players die with 0 lives remaining.
