A Superboss in a video game is an optional (sometimes hidden) major enemy of extreme difficulty and immense power, usually more powerful than the final boss itself and also usually found near the end of a video game. They exist to give the player an extra challenge and potentially can offer great rewards for their defeat, although it is mostly for bragging rights (and in later iterations and re-releases of certain video games, for achievements). The Final Fantasy series series traditionally does not offer any significant form of reward that is of any use to the player in the game for beating a superboss, but that isn't always the case. Superbosses, because they are optional, may require a completion of side quests and/or completion of a hidden or optional dungeon before they become available.
