Texas hold 'em is a card game in which the player has two private "hole" cards, and uses those along with three of five community cards to create their hand.

Evolution of Holdem

By the 1950's, regardless of how it started, Holdem was a popular game in Texas. Players like Johnny Moss, Doyle Brunson and Amarillo Slim were among the now well-known players who, eventually, popularized the game all over the USA.

It was another player, Felton "Corky" McCorquodale, who is said to have really given Holdem a boost in 1963, though, when he brought it to Las Vegas. Texas Holdem has been gaining more and more popularity ever since.

World Series of Popularity:

In 1971, Texas Holdem got its next huge popularity boost. In its second year, the World Series of Poker made no-limit Holdem its main event. The game became so popular that it is still the World Series main event, even now. That, combined with online poker popularity and the start of the World Poker Tour (WPT) on TV in 2003, means that Texas Holdem is definitely here to stay.
