The Chaser is a 2018 first-person survival horror video game developed by sole independent video game developer, SlenderDev - in association with Blue Isle Studios and Parsec Productions. It serves as a remake and spin-off to the 2013 survival horror video game, Slender: The Arrival. Early access begins on March 26, 2018, before the game will be released on Steam for Microsoft Windows and macOS on October 28, 2018.
Story[]
You are Lauren, a young woman looking for her best friend, Kate. Following the events of The Arrival, Lauren discovers Kate has been brainwashed and turned against her as a feral, hooded creature known as the Chaser. After being knocked unconscious, Lauren awakens trapped in an abandoned mining facility, where she must collect 6 gas canisters and use them to activate corresponding generators in order to power up the emergency lift out of the facility.
Characters[]
- Kate/The Chaser - The titular main antagonist of the game. Proxy of the Slender Man who suffers from photophobia and chases and attacks trespassers inside the facility. Described as an average female with soot-covered eyes and messy black hair who wears a blood-stained white hoodie and paper mache mask.
- Lauren - The main protagonist and playable character of the game. A young woman originally working as a realtor alongside Kate to sell her house. Following a desperate rescue effort, she now comprehends the horrible truth about her former best friend and must now stay alive in order to escape it.
- Slender Man - The faceless secondary antagonist of the game who can only be seen through video cameras. Facing him causes the camera to glitch and distort, intensifying as the player gets closer. Coming too close will result in the player's death. It is shown that his influence can eventually drive his victims so far into insanity that they become a monstrous, violent shadow of their former selves (called "Proxies"), as with Kate and Charlie Matheson Jr.
- Charlie Matheson Jr. - A missing child who was abducted by Slender Man at a young age. Now a hollow, skeletal entity, he has the ability teleport selectively and to cause several images to flash across the screen whenever provoked.
Gameplay[]
The gameplay in The Chaser is very similar to its predecessor, Slender: The Arrival The player is armed only with a flashlight. This limited defense forces a sense of helplessness, as the best way to survive in the game is to run whenever in danger. The Chaser itself is very aggressive. However, she does have a weakness. The only way of subduing her is by focusing the flashlight on her. The game also has several different enemies, all of which appear at different points in the game.
