The Mark of Kri is an action-adventure game exclusively released for PlayStation 2, developed by San Diego Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was followed by a sequel called "Rise of the Kasai" in April 2005.
Plot[]
The game's plot revolves around Rau Utu, a skilled warrior and protector of the Marks of Kri known as the Rakus. Rau is mentored by Baumusu, the last of the older generation of Rakus and his adoptive father. Accompanied by his raven scout and narrator, Kuzo, Rau embarks on an adventure where he learns stealth, swordsmanship, and the importance of being a hero.
Rau is asked for a favor by the village innkeeper, Rongo, and a cleric named Maoruku, who seek his help in dealing with bandits. After successfully handling the bandits, Rau gains a reputation as a skilled warrior. A mysterious man approaches Rau in a tavern, offering him money for his services. Despite his reservations, Rau accepts the offer and retrieves a piece of parchment from a tomb. However, he soon realizes he has been deceived by the enigmatic man known as the "Dark One."
It is revealed that the Dark One is a member of an evil organization called the Kasai, dedicated to world domination. Rau learns from a fortune teller named Simka that the money he received was counterfeit and cursed by the Kasai. He is advised to head north to Vaitaku and consume the fruit of an oracle tree to uncover his true destiny.
After eating the sacred fruit, Rau discovers that he is destined to protect a captured boy who possesses the fifth Mark of Kri. He also learns that his own name will be revered and whispered among the gods. Rau's ultimate goal is to find his sister, Tati, who possesses the final Mark of Kri and has been taken by the Kasai during the attack on their village.
Driven by vengeance for the destruction of his village and the death of Baumusu, Rau confronts the Dark One in Rahtutusai. He defeats the Dark One's minions and rejects an offer to join forces. Rau avenges the deaths of his loved ones, rescues Tati, and sets the stage for future confrontations with the Kasai to save the Three Kingdoms from their world domination plans.
In the end, Kuzo hints at further adventures for Rau and Tati, indicating that their story continues in a different time.
