Terminology

Top-down perspective video games are video games where the perspective the player sees is from above, looking down, also referred to as birds-eye view or helicopter view. This view varies slightly from dimetric perspective or isometric perspective since top-down is directly above while dimetric/isometric views appear slightly to one side in an attempt to add depth. Top-down view is mostly used in RPGs such as the Final Fantasy series and even action and adventure video games like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past or Grand Theft Auto.
