The United Nations is a political intergovernmental organization with representatives from 193 countries in attendance, plus two members with Observer status; The Holy See, and the State of Palestine. While the United Nations are composed of many umbrella organisations, two are of particular significance; the General Assembly, and the Security Council. The United Nations was formed when the UN Charter took effect on October 24, 1945, after the events of World War II.
