Codex Gamicus

Hello. Welcome to Wikicities. A Nintendo wiki was requested two months ago, but has remained almost completely inactive. I'd be interested in whether you think that wiki should be redirected to this one. The wiki has 5 pages, and has had 5 edits in the last month. Angela 23:56, 2 Mar 2005 (GMT)

I think that'd be good. - furrykef 00:51, 4 Mar 2005 (GMT)
Ok. I've moved their pages over here now, and the wiki will be redirected. Angela 12:12, 4 Mar 2005 (GMT)

GameInfo Needs You![]

Hello Kef! My name is Eric and I've run into game info a month ago. I think it's a great site and we should build a great archive of games together! I am excited by your project but find that you are not around for a while. What happened? And why not come back and build the wiki together? --Eric 01:03, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

I was wondering, since you're closely related to some other wikis, might you mind making a WikiNode page for this one? There's an example over at Wikicities:WikiNode. If you do, just leave a message on my talk page, and I'll link to you from the dnd: one, and possibly others will do similarly for their wikis. Thanks! Mathx314(talk)(email) 20:16, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Excellent, thanks! Mathx314(talk)(email) 23:57, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Mailing list[]

Hi. I just noticed you're not subscribed to the gameinfo mailing list. Also, do you want to be the moderator of that list since you've taken over as founder of this wiki? Angela (talk) 02:23, 20 May 2005 (UTC)

Eh, doesn't matter to me. - furrykef (Talk at me) 23:21, 21 May 2005 (UTC)

Gameinfo v. games[]

How would you feel about this wiki moving to Someone else has requested a wiki where they can play games, and I don't feel that would fit in here, even though "games" is the best name for it, so I thought about moving this one to gameinfo and having the new one at games. Please let me know what you think. Thanks. Angela (talk) 01:25, 22 May 2005 (UTC)

Edit attribution[]

Yes I did wind it back to yours in many cases. I think this is just that MediaWiki 1.4 bug that never got squashed; occasionally on Wikipedia when admins reverted the change would end up attributed to the user they reverted to.

I just hope Wikicities has 1.5 up and running soon, some of its features would be really useful... and this bug is also removed in that version, so then we'll know for sure. I haven't seen this on any other cities, so it may just be this bug. Garrett 05:24, 28 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Re: Passing the torch?[]

Since you seem to be the most heavily involved right now, you clearly have an idea of what you're doing (I'm not so sure I know what I'm doing these days...), and I don't see myself becoming heavily active here again for a while, I'm thinking of making you the official maintainer of our wiki in my place. What do you think? - furrykef (Talk at me) 07:34, 12 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't see why not. I don't think it will be much more work than what I'm doing already. Garrett 21:55, 14 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Linux and open-source games[] 15:09, 3 April 2006 (PDT) User:Open-source_addicted

creating a wiki[]

hello...i will tell how and why i created this content...

  • at first i was very disapointed with the lack of corect websites for linux games, you have some website but as i am new in linux games i don't know them well so websites such as the linux game tome is great because you have all the games update but if you are a newcommer it's useless or too long to find some interesting games...
  • so i searched for a suitable wiki in order to find or add content interesting me and went directly ti wika/wikicities and looked at all games wiki...

i evewn found this wiki but:

    • i didn't found the unix section in platforms
    • i had the fealing that is was specific to windows and gaming console and prefered to do this on a wiki specialised on this ind of games...

and so i didn't found a wiki suiting y needs

  • so i decided to create a wiki...and they told me to go here...

then i looked at this website and found the unix section (unix usualy means linux+others such as bsd,macosX...) i looked inside and saw that is was badly i started at another point on this wiki...i will explain why it's badly presented

The content[]

there is realy a lot of games that are open-source(that means that they generaly can run on windows) and their quality and goal vary a have a lot of card and board games, very old 3d games such as doom and also the cutting edge games such as nezuiz(but despite of the graphics the gameplay it is a lot similar as quake3,but it's programers team is preparing a great new game with a great scenario)

so it's very difficult to diferenciate them like this and a link to it's wiki page woun't give you any information about the genre or the advancement of the graphics of the game so i thoat of classifying the games in this way:

  • commercial linux games
    • commercial games
      • fps
      • strategy
      • simulation
    • mods
  • abandonware that doesn't fit into open-source games
  • open-source games
      • fps
        • doom 1
        • doom 2
        • doom 1
      • strategy
      • platform
        • supertux

each time i would have remplaced a link with a screenshot, the strategy game link with the screenshot of it's best game...

inside the FPS section(for example) i would have remplaced each games link by a screenshot, permitting the user to know if the graphics is good or not...

i would have depeply changed the pages inside [unix],such as tuxracer in order to add a lot of content such as screenshot,platforms(windows,mac,linux,zaurus...),minimal specifications and librairies...

in order to do this i had first to classify the games and then migrate their pages to the new presentation

by the way i had made a pages of all the port also for quick viewing from windows and mac users...despite of the duplication of the work added by such page

Technical questions[]

while making this wiki pages i wanted to do several things that i was unable to find at wikipedia:

  • i had a problem adding a tux.png image in order to show that it runs on linux
  • i didn't know how to remplace the image by a link
  • i didn't know how to make some text go to the right and some other to the left inside the frame of the image...i also want to know how to do that for tables...

by the you know that a wikicity wiki specialised on cheats for games exist... you may consider using the metawiki feature and instead of ading cheats directly on your wiki...add the cheats on the game cheats wiki...

My, what a lot of ideas! First off Gameinfo isn't focussing on Windows and consoles, it's just that they have infinitely more games and so are written about more often.
Certainly more categorisation and different ways to list games is very helpful.
metawikipedia:Help:Images and other uploaded files should answer your image-related questions.
As for Cheatbase I've known about it (and I'm sure Kef has too), but the problem is there's often a very vague line between "button cheat codes" (e.g. B A B A B C B) and "ingame things that are considered cheating" (e.g. deliberately breaking the game to make an item dupe itself). For the moment I don't see any reason not to keep all such things right here. About all Cheatbase has goin' for it is a schway logo. :)
Oh and just in case you didn't know you can auto-sign your username and the date/time by typing four tildes (~~~~) rather than copying and pasting which you seem to have done. So much easier. :) Garrett 10:37, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Certainly more categorisation and different ways to list games is very helpful.
so can i re-create the pages that were deleted, and if something was wrong, what should i change in this pages in order to be acepted in this wiki?
As you said linux games are fewer than windows one,but there is also less publicity on them,so a presentation like the one i did is great, but that doesn't prevent some others presentation to exist
thank a lot for responding me and also for the link about images... 14:29, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Please, just look around the wiki and see the way we do things. I'd also appreciate it if you took a little more care in your spelling and punctuation... I hate to pick on that, but I do find what you say very hard to read. - furrykef (Talk at me) 13:18, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm very sorry for beeing hard to read, that is a big problem!!!
I understand very well your point of viwe on improoving the existing pages and adding the same kind of content but doing the kind of presentation doesn't prevent improving the pages,In reality it's just an alternative presentation that have nothing to do with the content of the pages, and that need,in order to be usefull,an improovement and creation of a lot of pages like you told me to do... 14:29, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

By the way :

  • if you could just add ~~~~ to my page after responding me it would be great because i would be automaticly noticied that you have responded
  • i was doing ~~~~ but it added my ip adress even after loging on(i was automaticaly loged out!!!) i clicked on the "remember ???" button and that fixed the thing
  • i have the filowing error when i want to edit this page and i have to logout+login in order to be able to edit the pages...the problem is that after doing this i am able to do...only one edit
Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data.
Please try again. If it still doesn't work, try logging out and logging back in.
Our technical staff has been alerted to this problem, and we hope to have it fixed very soon.
Some users have had more luck when they preview their edits before saving them

i think that is related to cookies because after clearing them i was able to edit

Please, just look around the wiki and see the way we do things

Look at SuperTux and tell me if it's fine if not and if i my aproach is incompatible with your wiki,we should consider:

  • that i will create another specialised wiki, only and if only the content of the games pages i edited isn't suitable for this wiki(such as supertux)
  • that both wiki need to be added to the interwiki list in order to be able to link each-other and share some comon pages

i am not against you or your wiki, but as in open-source software different aproach exist and sometimes it's good because it gives a diversity of choice such as wine and ReactOS(a GPL clone of windows XP),and the important thing, when different aproach exist,is to be able to divide the work:for example ReactOS developers use(in ReactOS) and contribute to wine because they share a lot of common dll

New response[]

thank for the wesnoth thing i just copied another user

I am very sorry for the problem with the supertux page and i tryed to fit with how others pages looked:

  • a lot of presentations pages are stubs
  • the wesnoth pages seemed to have a lot more information

so i made wrong asumptions with the "guidelines" and thoat that i could add a lot of content here...

as you reverted my changes i concluded that:

  • the main page must be keeped simple while explaning roughly what the game is...
  • can the rest of the content that was reverted be placed in review?

what i have done to make things better:

  • i merged all the templates inside the pages(including the ones at SuperTux)
  • i copied the version of SuperTux that was there before it get reverted to Reviews:SuperTux

by the way i read GameinfoWiki:Community_Portal some time ago and i just re-read it and there is nothing for my precise style problem(so i looked at the pages)

Why did you copy the old page to Reviews:SuperTux? It's not a review. If you want a place to keep it until all the information is integrated, put it in your userspace somewhere or something. - furrykef (Talk at me) 18:26, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
so that is also not a review?
if it's not a review how this is called?
i don't understand why users couldn't have acces to this page,i could simply name it with something else than "review"

templates for deletions[]

here are my templates for deletion(i merged all in the respectives pages)

i didn't add the other's user template because he could want to keep them

Gameinfo and StrategyWiki[]

I also think it may not be good idea to "compete" with another wiki in general, since it's more likely that both wikis will suffer (probably ours moreso since it looks smaller). I wish somebody had told me about that wiki so we could have coordinated our efforts sooner. Anyway, what do you think we should do? - furrykef (Talk at me) 17:21, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

I've been meaning to get back to you about this for months now. Right now StrategyWiki has almost 400 guides, while Gameinfo has only 30. Unlike Gameinfo, StrategyWiki doesn't have data pages in addition to guide cover pages, so linking to guides here might not work very well. I'd say we should move this handful there where they'll get more attention, and focus on the data entries and non-videogame guides. While this means there wouldn't be any guides here for a while, it will only be temporary; a few months back Jimbo decreed that "non-textbook" content shouldn't be on Wikibooks. Right now the emphasis is on moving the videogame guides, but once they're gone non-electronic guides will probably be next. This means excellent content like Wikibooks:Monopoly might find a new home here. Anyway, what do you think? Garrett 00:48, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, well, I did originally create this wiki with video games in mind... but, at the same time, I feel the wiki's more or less out of my hands now, since I still don't have much interest in working on it lately. So do what you think is best. - furrykef (Talk at me) 06:31, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey this is my first time on this wiki and I went to Halo2 guide, I noticed that I think it was all coppied except the Beggining from Wikipedia or Halopedia, Not to be Rude I would like to know, For my Main user Page its User:Darth tader on the SWFanon site. Bye. {{SUBST:User:Darth tader/sig}} 01:00, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Future of this wiki[]

Hi Furrykef, I work in marketing at Wiki and have been paying special attention lately to all the gaming wikis. I noticed that this wiki isn't very active lately. I would love to hear from you what you think the reasons were and if you are working on a different gaming wiki now instead. I am spearheading an effort to work with the community to create a central gaming community and start to promote it and drive more traffic. One thought we had was to give gameinfo a facelift. another option is to use If we use than perhaps we should merge the content from gameinfo over.. Any thoughts? angies (talk) 16:23, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

No, I'm not working on another gaming wiki... I just don't have much interest in the project unless I feel like writing about a game. Do whatever you think is best. :) - furrykef (Talk at me) 23:42, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi. We redesigned the look and feel of to enhance the other aspects of the site along with opinions and reviews. See the main page, for example, where we now have sections encouraging people to write game summaries, rate games, and other "encyclopedic" aspects. I just read above that you don't mind "merging" this site into We would love it if you could come over and help us at and write game summaries, etc, and help move the content already at gameinfo over. What do you think? --Roblefko 12:01, 19 June 2007 (UTC)12:01, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
I gave my reply at Roblefko's talk page. --SkizzerzTalk - Contribs 16:24, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Gaming news blog proposal[]

Hi, I'm Paweł from Wiki Gaming Team. Plese take a look at our proposal regarding making this wiki a source of all sorts of gaming news at User_blog:Ausir/Gaming_news_blog_proposal and tell us what you think! Ausir(talk) 20:05, July 13, 2010 (UTC)

I haven't been active here for ages and am only active here now to update an old guide of mine, so I really have no opinion. - furrykef (Talk at me) 22:09, July 13, 2010 (UTC)

Skin for this hub[]

Hi, I was just wondering if you could give us the css:monaco skin code as we are trying to make a new Creative Hub.

Thanks :D

Sorry, I don't know any more about that than you do. - furrykef (Talk at me) 11:08, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

Getting your Wiki listed on the Portal[]

I asked this in the forums about a week ago but it doesn't appear anyone uses those. I'm hoping you can tell me what one has to do to get their Wiki featured on the corresponding portal here on Wiki Gaming. Thanks. Revitalizer 23:18, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

  • Nevermind, another admin checked the forums. Revitalizer 00:10, March 5, 2011 (UTC)

Hi , i almost mastered creating web pages here but i still don't know two things
