Wii Fit is a video game for the Wii video game console, developed by Nintendo. It is an example of exergaming. Previously revealed under the code name Wii Health Pack, it was announced under its current title at Nintendo's E3 press conference on July 11, 2007 by famed video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. At Nintendo's media briefing, it was demonstrated by Miyamoto himself, Reggie Fils-Aime and other participants. Like the rest of the Wii series, Wii Fit will integrate Miis into its presentation and gameplay. The game is designed to function with the Wii Balance Board peripheral.
Body Test[]
While standing on the Wii Balance Board, the player's weight and Body Mass Index (BMI) is measured. Wii Fit also tests the players center of balance and posture.
The player's measurements and the time they exercised is recorded on a calendar. Activities not done with Wii Fit can also be recorded.
The player is encouraged to set a weight loss goal and deadline.
Training[]
Training is divided into four categories: Yoga, Strength Training, Aerobics and Balance games. Each category has several activities and more can be unlocked as the player accumulates time spent on the activities. The total time spent doing the activities is calculated for each session with a goal of at least thirty minutes of exercise. If the player chooses to exercise longer they are given reminders to take a break.
The player's performance after each activity is rated from one to four stars, one being "Unbalanced" and four being "Master" which, in the case of the Aerobics and Balance games, are recorded in a "High Scores" table. Yoga and Strength training evaluate the player's balance and flexibility. Improving unlocks higher difficulty levels, more reps, or longer times.
Workouts are two or three Yoga or Strength activities that target a certain area of the body or goal. They are displayed after you have completed an activity, with the activities done checked off. There is no reward for completing a workout.
A list of ten of the player's favorite activities is also kept.
