Windows/286 (originally referred to as Windows before being renamed to Windows/286 with version 2.10) is a graphical operating released by Microsoft Corporation on December 9, 1987. It runs as a graphical shell on top of an existing MS-DOS installation. Windows/286 was complemented by Windows/386 and succeeded by Windows 3.0. Support was officially discontinued on December 31, 2001.
