Windows 10 is an operating system released in July 2015 by Microsoft Corporation. It is the current version in the line of Windows operating systems, being preceded by Windows 8.1.

Microsoft Edge, the replacement web browser for Internet Explorer, was introduced; although Internet Explorer will remain for compatibility and legacy purposes. Features introduced in Edge include support for a Reading View, writing directly on pages and saving them to OneNote, a Reading List, and integration with Cortana.

The Xbox app is updated as well; games from the Xbox One can be streamed to any Windows 10 device excluding smartphones. A game bar that provides screenshot and video capture functionality for Windows games among other features, as well as a game DVR feature has been added.

Windows 10 brought the Cortana personal assistant from Windows Phone 8.1, which can be activated by either typing in the search pane or using the voice command "Hey Cortana".

The Windows 10 start menu received a major overhaul from the one in Windows 8.1. Along with maintaining the live tile features, users can now resize the Start menu and view recently added and most used applications. It can also be made full screen, and users can pin tiles to the right-hand side of the menu.

Task View, a task switching and virtual desktop system accessible via the taskbar button, also makes a debut.

Windows 10 introduces a group of features called "Continuum", which is designed to enable smoother transitions between a default interface mode for keyboards and mice and an interface for touchscreen devices.

The Control Panel is still available as of March 2017 but is soon to be overtaken by the Settings app.

Windows 10 includes DirectX 12, which aims to provide "console-level efficiency" with "closer to the metal" access to hardware resources, and reduced CPU and graphics driver overhead.
