Windows 8 is an operating system released in October 2012 by Microsoft Corporation. It is the successor to Windows 7 and the predecessor to Windows 8.1. It was criticized for the new user interface that was introduced being potentially confusing and difficult to learn with a keyboard and mouse.
Features[edit | edit source]
Among the new features in Windows 8 were a touch-optimized Windows shell based on the "Metro" design language, the Start screen (which displays programs and dynamically updated content on a grid of tiles), a new platform for developing "apps" with an emphasis on touchscreen input, integration with online services such as OneDrive, and the Windows Store – an online store for downloading and purchasing new software.
