Windows Millennium Edition (also known as Windows ME) is an operating system released in 2000 by Microsoft Corporation. It was the successor to Windows 98 Second Edition and was targeted specifically at home PC users.
Features
Windows ME included Internet Explorer 5.5 (a web browser), Windows Media Player 7 (a media player), Windows DVD Player (a DVD player), and Windows Movie Maker (a basic video editing application). It also featured the shell enhancements from Windows 2000 such as personalized menus and a customizable Windows Explorer toolbar, which was released seven months earlier.
Windows ME also included DirectX 7.1 (eventually upgradeable to 9.0c), which introduced DirectPlay Voice, and also included several new games: Internet Backgammon, Internet Checkers, Internet Hearts, Internet Reversi, Internet Spades, Pinball, and Spider Solitaire. It also includes features that would later be seen in Windows XP, such as System Restore.
