World 1-1 is the first level of World 1 in Super Mario Bros. and the first level of the game outright. According to game creator Shigeru Miyamoto, this level was designed as a tutorial level so that players can get familiar with the game's platforming and controls. It is one of the most iconic video game levels of all time and has been widely imitated and parodied in other media. In addition to Super Mario Bros., it also appears in its remakes Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario Bros. Deluxe.
World 1-1 would later appear in some capacity in later Mario titles, such as Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Paper Mario, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, Super Mario Odyssey, and Super Mario Maker 2.
It also serves as the basis for the Mushroomy Kingdom stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
